Teaching:

While at Boise State and Michigan State I have been the lab instructor for non major introductory biology labs for 8 semesters. Teaching to students from many backgrounds has been very helpful for communicating science to non science students. 

Mentoring:

I have been very lucky to mentor undergraduate research assistants (URA)  and a National Science Foundation student (REU) student during my career. Getting to mentor and work with undergraduates (like Grace Avalos in the picture) has been one of my favorite parts of being a grad student.
